Come learn to play ukulele with Stanley
The course starts with simple lessons that get you playing lots of songs. It progresses steadily to more advanced skills. You'll learn playing chords to accompany singing, strumming patterns and rhythms, playing melodies, reading simple sheet music, transcribing from what you hear in recordings onto paper, playing all types of songs including folk, rock, country, blues, jazz, and more. Based on the book called Ukulele Beginner To Brilliant by Doug Falconer (available on Amazon.com), our instructor, Stanley Sokolow, will guide our group of beginners and intermediate players toward achieving their musical potential while having fun.
Bring your ukulele if you have one, or use one of our loaner ukuleles for your first session until you decide to buy your own. We'll give advice on what to buy. Come to the first session even before you buy the book. We'll display the pages on our big TV for the class. Then when you're sure you want to continue, buy the book and your ukulele for home study. The textbook is available in paperback as a combined edition of all 4 volumes, or as an ebook in Amazon's Kindle format, which is less expensive. You don't need a Kindle tablet. At the first lesson, the instructor will demonstrate how to install a free Kindle reader app on your computer, tablet, or smart phone, and then how to purchase the $9.95 ebook download. The book also has a YouTube channel where Doug Falconer demonstrates the lessons.
Following the hour long class will be a 45 minute "club"/jam session. You do not need to be a class participant to join in for the jam sessions.
The Vacaville Town Square Library has one meeting room and two study room spaces available.
