Join us for an installment of Doc & Discuss! We will screen a documentary and hold space for conversation about its topic.
Join us for Doc & Discuss! In this Saturday series of events, we will be screening a topical documentary and holding space for a discussion about its topic afterwards. We will be offering light refreshments during the screening to all attendees. As February is Black History Month and this year's BHM theme is Black Labor, our documentary will focus on the American fight for workers' rights and the involvement of prominent Black activists who've helped achieve the rights many workers enjoy today.
February's documentary is Haymarket: The Bomb, the Anarchists, the Labor Struggle. This documentary features expert historians and professors presenting the history of the incident, the anarchist and socialist movements of the 19th century, and the labor struggle of working people fighting for a shorter work day during the industrial might of America's Gilded Age. Featured in this documentary is a prominent Black activist, Lucy Parsons. Our discussion will start with a closer look at Ms. Parsons and her legacy.
Spend a cerebral Saturday afternoon with us at the library! We hope to see you there.
