Author/Illustrator Talk with Lorie Topinko
Thursday, June 18
2:00pm - 3:00pm
Vacaville Town Square Library
Meeting RoomLocal author and illustrator Lorie Topinko shares selected excerpts & illustrations from her newest book & her journey as an author/illustrator.
Davis based author and illustrator Lorie Topinka will read selections and share illustrations from her most recently published book, "Chickens of the 5th Street Community Garden and the Rat Wars: A Children's Book for Adults".
Oh no! Lorie has hurt herself - who will take care of her garden plot? Bossy, Gallo, and Flor, three whimsical muses in the form of chickens decide to take over garden duty. Only one problem - each chicken has a different idea about what to plant, and where... Oh, make that two problems... once the garden is growing, out come the rats to steal the fruits (and vegetables) of the chicken trio's labors. How will this garden grow? Will Lorie and the chickens get to enjoy some home-grown snacks?
After sharing excerpts from her story, Lorie will discuss how she became an author/illustrator and talk about her art and writing processes and practices. To close, there will be an informal question and answer session and an art activity.
This event is for all ages, though likely best suited for those with the patience to sit through a powerpoint presentation and discussion! Fun for families with kids (or adults) interested in becoming authors and/or illustrators.
