Quilted Potholders
Tuesday, August 11
5:30pm - 7:00pm
Vallejo John F. Kennedy Library
The MakeryWe will be sewing the friendship star block. Some sewing skills required. All materials provided.
Sew a quilted potholder at the JFK Library! The Vallejo John F. Kennedy Library is hosting a start-to-finish sewing workshop making a quilted potholder using a friendship star quilt block pattern. We will provide a limited selection of fabrics, but you are more than welcome to bring your own materials if you have any you would prefer to use. If you bring your own fabric, please make sure it is entirely made of cotton or linen because these fabrics withstand heat the best. Quilting cotton is the best for this project if you have it on hand.
We have 4 sewing machines available for the workshop. If you have your own machine you would like to bring, please let us so know so we can set up the room accordingly. If you have any questions, please call the library: (866) 572-7587.
Due to limited machinery and supplies, we require registration for this event.
Participants in this adult program need to know some sewing machine basics such as threading a machine, sewing straight lines, and maintaining a quarter-inch seam allowance.
Weekly Schedule:
August 4th: Fabric selection, cutting, and piecing together front
August 11th: Quilting layers together and sewing on the hand pocket
August 18th: Finishing the hand pocket and sewing the bias binding
Supplies:
We will provide all materials, however you are welcome to bring your own fabric and thread if you prefer.
For this project you will need:
- Two ¼ yard pieces of fabric in contrastic colors for the front
- One ¼ yard piece of fabric for the back
- One 8 ¼” square of quilting batting
- One 8 ¼” square of Insul Bright
- 42” of double-fold bias tape for binding
